Frequently asked questions
What is the Stalam COLDWAVE+ used for?
The Stalam COLDWAVE+ is an industrial radio-frequency system for rapid thawing and tempering of frozen food. It brings frozen blocks, cartons and IQF products to a precise target temperature in minutes, ready for slicing, dicing, mincing, forming, cooking or further processing.
How fast is the COLDWAVE+ compared to a thawing room?
Conventional thawing rooms typically take one to three days. The COLDWAVE+ reduces this to minutes, because radio-frequency energy heats the whole block from the inside out rather than transferring heat slowly from the surface inwards.
What products can it process?
Meat, poultry, fish, seafood, fruit, vegetables and ready meal components. It handles solid blocks, cartons and IQF products, and is widely used across the food industry wherever frozen product needs bringing to temperature quickly and evenly.
Does it reduce drip loss?
Yes, substantially. Because heating is rapid and uniform, the temperature difference between the outside and core of the block stays small. Products retain far more of their original weight, texture and quality, which directly protects yield.
How much floor space does it need?
Considerably less than a refrigerated thawing room. The COLDWAVE+ is a compact in-line unit, and multiple modules can be combined to increase capacity as production grows, so you can scale without expanding your building.
Is it hygienic and safe for food production?
Yes. It is a clean, contact-free process that avoids the prolonged warm, moist conditions of traditional thawing rooms where bacteria multiply. Rapid, controlled heating keeps product within safe temperature ranges throughout.
Can I see a trial before buying?
Yes. Global Food Technology can arrange product trials and performance demonstrations. Tell us your product type, block or carton size, throughput requirement and target temperature and we will advise on the right configuration.
Who supplies and supports the COLDWAVE+ in the UK and Ireland?
Global Food Technology is the UK and Ireland supplier of Stalam RF thawing and tempering equipment, providing sales, application advice, installation, commissioning and ongoing support.
